Photographic storyboard

We created a photographic storyboard to display what we want to happen in our trailer.
This helped us to present our trailer the way we visualised it. Myself, amy, lauren and jess took the pictures within the school, we all played various characters and used a jumper up my t-shirt to show how one of our charcters is pregnant.

Anamatic Storyboard

This is our animatic storyboard, it shows the shots that we would like to use in still pictures but by editing them together we can show the transitions at the same time.

We created our animatic storyboard to display how we would like our trailer to look in more detail than the photographic storyboard. We used stop motion photography to film our trailer and this enabled us to explore different filming techniques that we could possibly use in the future.

Big soap opera events

There are often major events within soaps that everyone tunes in to watch.
These are events of significant magnitude which will turn the soap upside-down.

The most recent big tune in, was 'Four Funerals and a Wedding'  which was based around a tram crash in coronation street. It had a massive tune in of 14.6 million people. There was a massive build up of tension to this episode as there was a trailer playing for up to two weeks before the episode was showing.

EastEnders Live" is a live episode of the British television soap opera EastEnders, broadcast on BBC One on 19 February 2010. The episode was commissioned as part of the show's 25th anniversary celebrations, and was the first EastEnders episode to be broadcast live. The episode concludes a "whodunnit" storyline about the murder of Archie Mitchell (Larry Lamb), revealing his killer to be Stacey Slater (Lacey Turner). It also sees the exit of Charlie Clements as Bradley Branning, who falls to his death from the roof of The Queen Victoria public house. The episode was watched by 19.9 million cumulative viewers, becoming the most watched show of the year to date. EastEnders Live: The Aftermath, a documentary which followed the episode on BBC Three, was seen by 11.6 million viewers, drawing the station's highest ever ratings.

It is one of the UK's highest-rated programmes, often appearing near or at the top of the week's BARB ratings. Within eight months of its launch, it reached the number-one spot in the ratings, and has consistently remained among the top-rated TV programmes in Britain.
Week beginning November 2010, Eastenders was 3rd position in highest figures with 10.4 million viewers. This shows me that Eastenders is a popular soap, so to make sure our soap would get high ratings, we should follow the story lines and keep them similar as we can see these are popular.

Discussions withing the group about filming

Planning of our soap trailer filming was very important so we met as a group to discuss regularly.
Our discussions involved talking about the days, times and exact places of filming:
  • Costumes and make up for our actors/actresses
  • Props for within the location and for the actors/actresses
  • Transport
  • Equipment
Many original details have changed considerably. As we had arranged a filming day saturday afternoon which went fine we had no problems with the weather however, we found we didnt have enough footage. Which meant we needed to refilm all of the footage we did this so we would have good continuity.

How we organised our actors

We held auditions to find the actors/actresses suitable for our roles. We looked specifically at actors/actresses who have similar personality to the characters we created. My input was to film the auditions and I focused on the asking questions to each character within the auditions. Jess had wrote scripts for each character. We auditions three people for each character so that we could honestly get the best actors/actresses for the role we were casting.

Organising the actors for our trailer

We made sure that we were very organised with our actors. we wantd them to know exactly when and where we would need them to film. We mainly communicated with our actors at sixth form, texting and through facebook when sending a mass message to all of our actors explaining how to get to the filming location.

We also sent texts to each actor to let them know what they would need to bring with them so they knew what wear for their costume, some of our actors drove and this meant that we could also use all of our actors at the same time, those who couldn't drive or were unable to get a lift with the other actors got a lift from one of our group members.

Inital ideas on soap opera poster

My initial ideas on my groups soap opera Poster

We wanted to include on our poster:
  • A picture that introduces the characters whilst showing a story line which will interest the audience so they are interested in watching the soap opera.
  • We also wanted to show the time, date and channel the soap opera will be being played on.
  • The title of the soap opera would also need to be included, preferably big and bold so the audience can see what the poster is about in order to want to watch the soap.

We wanted to show all the generic conventions of soap opera poster. These included:
  • A bold heading with a sub title under or around the heading
  • Showing the time and date the soap would be played on
  • Having the background as a large photo rather than a plain colour so the readers knew the new characters of the new soap
  • Having a tag line showingShowing main story lines
Before making our poster we will look over these initial ideas and try to make our soap opera poster fit the generic conventions as far as possible in order to make our poster to the best of its ability.

Inital ideas on soap opera magazine

My initial ideas on my groups soap opera magazine

We wanted to include in our magazine:
  • Interviews with main characters in order to learn more about the casts and their characters personalities.
  • Photo shoots of the main characters in order to gain knowledge of who is who in the soap.
  • A Television guide of what times television programmes will  be being shown during the week, it will say what time all programmes will be on and which days.
  • We wanted to include pages on all important events that will be coming up, from special soap episodes to awards evenings.
We wanted to show all the generic conventions of soap opera magazine. These included:
  • A bold heading with a sub title under or around the heading
  • Bar code
  • Showing the time and date
  • Having a weekly issue rather than a daily issue
  • Having the background as a large photo rather than a plain colour
  • Having a tag line showing on the front page
  • Showing the reader the new characters of the new soap
  • Showing main story lines
  • Showing the price
  • Bright outstanding colours
  • Big magazine name standing out
Before making our magazine we will look over these initial ideas and try to make our soap opera magazine fit the generic conventions as far as possible in order to make our magazine to the best of its ability.
